Despite a recent hiccup that may have caused some concern for the promising Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) programme, around 10,000 individuals have applied to join the local academy this year.

GOAL Director Jacob Opadeyi revealed this information on Sunday, providing an update regarding the academy’s offered courses.

“For 2025, we are very pleased with the high number of applicants. We received more than 10,000 applications, and so far, we have found over 9,000 students who are eligible,” the Director reported.

He added that the programme is also expanding its reach to particularly remote areas, where potential students in locations such as Monkey Mountain in Region Eight have been reached, and applications have been received.

Professor Opadeyi further noted that some potential students have been having difficulty uploading their qualifications as part of the registration process, so provisions have been made to facilitate this, despite the registration period having expired.

The GOAL programme offers a wide range of academic and vocational programmes, including pre-university foundation programmes, vocational certificates, undergraduate certificates, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate certificates, diplomas, master’s degrees, and doctorate degrees. Students are offered free scholarships provided by the Government of Guyana.
