President Irfaan Ali said he will meet with the families of those affected by two recent police-related incidents in Linden, as part of a broader effort to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.
In a post on Facebook, the President stated, “I will meet with the family members and community leaders to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns fully taken into account.”
His comments come amid heightened tensions in the community following the shooting death of Ronaldo Peters last night and a protester earlier today.
President Ali confirmed that he has been fully briefed on the situation and advised by the Commissioner of Police on the immediate steps taken.
He reported that the officers involved are currently under close arrest, and a full investigation is underway with support from the Regional Security System (RSS).
The President stressed that every aspect of the incidents will be thoroughly examined with external oversight to ensure transparency and impartiality.
“I am appealing to all residents to remain calm and allow the independent investigation to be completed,” the President said in a direct appeal to Linden residents.
He assured the public that any necessary actions arising from the investigation’s findings will be pursued to the fullest extent.
