Attorney Darren Wade, representing the family of Adrianna Younge, has said he is currently working with the family to determine their legal course of action following the tragic death of the young girl.
He told Ignite News that a public statement providing further updates will be released soon.
Adrianna Younge was reported missing on Wednesday afternoon after she went swimming with family members at the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
She was found dead the following morning, floating in the hotel’s pool. Her sudden disappearance and the circumstances surrounding her death have sparked national outrage.
Unconfirm reports suggest that several persons have been held for questioning in relation to her death.
Initial searches of the hotel’s pool and compound on Wednesday failed to locate the child.
Despite repeated pleas from relatives and members of the public, police were slow to respond and initially refused to conduct a thorough search of the premises. Although officers later allowed a limited search late Wednesday evening, there was still no trace of Younge.
The Guyana Police Force later stated they had video footage showing Adrianna exiting the hotel and entering a red and black Toyota Raum, which reportedly drove in the direction of Vreed-en-Hoop.
However, Deon Jeffrey, the registered owner of that vehicle, denied the police’s claims and expressed frustration with how he was treated after being taken into custody.
Hotel management claimed that their surveillance system was not working. In contrast, family members argued that nearby security cameras showed Arianna entering the hotel but never exiting, contradicting the police narrative.
It was not until Thursday morning that Adrianna’s lifeless, discoloured body was discovered in the hotel pool. Reports indicate that the body bore marks of violence.
News of the discovery triggered protests, with outraged citizens vandalising and burning the hotel, along with two homes belonging to the hotel’s owner.
President Irfaan Ali has since directed the police commissioner to assign a special investigative team to the case. An independent pathologist will conduct the autopsy on Younge’s remains.
Despite media inquiries on Friday, the police have not issued any further updates. Attorney Wade has called for the immediate release of the alleged surveillance footage the police claim to have in their possession.
