A 65-year-old man lost his life on Saturday afternoon following a crash at Cotton Tree Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
The deceased has been identified as O’Neil Adrian, a resident of Woodley Park Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to police reports, the fatal incident occurred around 17:40 hours and involved a motor lorry, GLL 1539, which Adrian was driving. Investigations revealed that Adrian was proceeding east along the public road when, while negotiating a right bend, he lost control of the vehicle. The lorry subsequently collided with a concrete fence on the southern side of the roadway, pinning Adrian inside.
Public-spirited citizens assisted in removing Adrian from the wreckage, after which he was transported to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. There, he was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is currently at Bailey’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are ongoing.
