The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) extends warm greetings to all Guyanese as we join in observing Labour Day 2025, a national holiday, to recognise the invaluable contributions of our nation’s workers across every region, industry, and sector.
Labour Day stands as a powerful reminder of the dignity of work, the sacrifices of the labour movement, and the ongoing efforts to ensure fair and just conditions for all. It is a day to reflect on past struggles and to reaffirm our future commitment to respect, equity, and social progress in the workplace and beyond.
Guyana’s labour force is as diverse as its people, comprising men and women of various ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds, all working side-by-side to shape our nation’s development.
The ERC pays tribute to this spirit of cooperation, which reflects the very ideals the Commission is mandated to uphold. The continued application of unity in diversity, equal opportunity, and peaceful coexistence is deeply engrained in the work being undertaken by the ERC and is evidenced in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity (DEI) training that the Commission is currently undertaking with state and private sector bodies.
As we commemorate Labour Day, let us honour the principles of solidarity and justice. In this unprecedented period of national growth and transformation, it is vital that the rights and contributions of all workers, regardless of ethnicity or origin, are protected and celebrated. Social harmony and economic development must go in tandem with each other.
The ERC encourages all stakeholders, employers, employees, unions, and policymakers, to continue working together to foster inclusive workplaces that uphold dignity, fairness, and mutual respect.
May the values of hard work, unity, and tolerance continue to guide us in our future endeavours.
Happy Labour Day to all!
