General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, has criticised the leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Aubrey Norton, for his no-show at the funeral service of his party’s stalwart, Amna Ally.
“You’ve had Amna Ally in your party for 50 years and you didn’t show up to the wake or funeral. What kind of vindictive or small-minded leader are you?” Dr. Jagdeo asked.
“What kind of leader are you and you are talking about unifying people,” he added.
Ally, who passed away on May 11th, was a former Executive and General Secretary of the PNC.
She served as Minister of Social Cohesion and Minister of Social Protection during the APNU+AFC coalition government from 2015 to 2020.
However, while politicians from varying parties gathered to pay respects to the longstanding Member of Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition was notably absent from all events organised to celebrate the life of Ally, including the funeral service.
