General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, has posed a series of pointed questions to Opposition Leader and People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) head, Aubrey Norton.
The Vice President’s questions come in response to a public call made by Norton, who recently invited citizens to submit questions that matter most to them, their families, and their future.
Speaking during his weekly press briefing at Freedom House on Thursday, Dr. Jagdeo was keen to make known his request to Norton.
“So since he wants us to ask, maybe I could start by asking a few questions. So how about when you stop rigging elections? When will you stop supporting lawlessness – the second question. When will you take responsibility for when your party pauperise Guyana in the 28 years that led us to be the poorest country in the hemisphere, the most debt-laden country in the hemisphere, and the disastrous five years. When will you be taking responsibility for that. What failing the Afro-Guyanese community in Guyana?” Dr. Jagdeo said.
The PNCR had earlier announced that citizens could send their questions or concerns to Norton via the party’s Facebook page or WhatsApp at 615-6978.
Dr. Jagdeo also suggested that the PNCR’s outreach was a mimic of a similar initiative launched weeks earlier by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).
In mid-April, the PPP invited citizens to share ideas for projects they would like to see included in the party’s next five-year manifesto.
According to Dr. Jagdeo, the submissions will be reviewed and selected ideas will be incorporated into the PPP/C’s 2025 manifesto.
The PPP is encouraging citizens to participate in the initiative by sending suggestions via WhatsApp to 741-2575 or by submitting written proposals in sealed envelopes at designated drop boxes at local party offices or at Freedom House.
