A calendar of events is currently being developed as part of preparations for the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga, which will be commemorated on June 21.

This year marks a decade since the global observance was first adopted by the United Nations in 2014, following a proposal by India.

International Day of Yoga 2025 is being observed under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

Speaking with journalists at his residence in D’Aguiars Park, Houston, India’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr. Amit Telang, shared that a series of events have already taken place in Georgetown, with more to be held throughout the remainder of May and into June.

“We have already conducted a few events,” said Dr. Telang, pointing out that various organisers will be reaching out to the different regions across Guyana.

He noted that the main event will be held on June 21 and will be organised in collaboration with partner organisations, the Government of Guyana, and yoga enthusiasts across the country. While details are still being finalised, he assured that more information will be shared in due course.

“This year is incidentally the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. We, in fact, started well in advance,” he added, emphasising the significance of this year’s observance.

The International Day of Yoga was officially adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014 and is celebrated annually on June 21 to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through yoga.
