A tragic accident today claimed the life of 30-year-old motorcyclist Troy Singh on the public road at Charity, Essequibo Coast.
Police reports indicate that the accident occurred around 14:25 hrs and involved Singh’s motorcycle (CM 6673) and a motor lorry (GDD 5397), which was being driven by a 47-year-old man from the Charity Housing Scheme.
According to the lorry driver, he was heading west along the Charity public road and was in the process of making a right turn when Singh, who was reportedly travelling east at a fast rate, lost control of his motorcycle.
Singh skidded on the road surface and collided with the front of the lorry.
The driver picked up Singh, who was unconscious at the time, and transported him to the Charity Cottage Public Hospital. There, Dr. N. Cozier, examined him for head trauma and multiple lacerations. Singh was pronounced dead at 14:37 hrs while receiving medical attention.
The lorry driver has since been taken into custody at the Charity Police Station and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
