A 28-year-old man from Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, lost his life in a fatal accident on Tuesday night along the Bee Hive public road, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Dindyal Rantydeo, who was driving motor car PGG 2109 at the time of the collision, which occurred at around 20:00 hrs. He was travelling west with one occupant—a 37-year-old man also from Mahaicony—when the crash occurred.
Police reports indicate that Rantydeo attempted to overtake another vehicle, which had its hazard lights on due to a horse crossing the roadway, when he collided head-on with motor car PAH 766, which was heading in the opposite direction.
The second vehicle was being driven by a 32-year-old man from Mahaica and had four other occupants at the time. All occupants from both vehicles sustained injuries.
Rantydeo was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken by police to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The other injured persons were taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital for treatment.
Police arrived at the scene around 20:10 hrs. The driver of PAH 766 was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which returned a negative result for alcohol. Both vehicles have been lodged for inspection by a licensing and certifying officer, and a notice of intended prosecution has been served.
The investigation is ongoing.
