Private Sector Commission prepares for key observer role in 2025 elections

The newly appointed chairman of Guyana’s Private Sector Commission (PSC), Gerald Gouveia Jr., says the body is preparing to play an observer role in the country’s upcoming general and regional elections, expected in November.

Gouveia told Ignite News the Commission is focused on ensuring the 2025 elections are free and fair — a crucial factor for maintaining investor confidence and a stable business climate.

“We are in an elections year and the private sector has a proud history of maintaining our presence in the observer missions that we conduct… We are committed this year in 2025 to ensure we have free, fair and efficient elections, so that we make sure we have the stability the country needs to continue to grow, and the business community has the confidence in our electoral system so that we can continue to invest and create jobs for our young Guyanese people,” Gouveia said.

He added that the PSC would be reaching out to both international and local observer missions to begin coordination efforts.

“So that will be something you will see us being very active on, coordinating with the international observation missions and also fielding our local private sector observers in all of the polling stations or as many as we can hit,” he noted.

Gouveia said the PSC will continue to be active in this area to help maintain stability in the country.
