GPF Confirms Official Cause of Death for Adriana Younge as Drowning

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has officially ruled the cause of death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge as drowning, according to the “final autopsy report” submitted by three internationally recognized pathologists.

In a statement, the police said that the report, which was released on Tuesday, found no signs of foul play, trauma, assault, or any criminal activity in connection with Adriana’s death.

This announcement comes as the child’s body was sent to the United States on Monday morning for a second autopsy and further forensic testing at the family’s request.

Adriana was last seen on April 23, 2025, at the swimming pool of the Double Day International Hotel, where her body was later recovered on April 24.

Police say that the “thorough” postmortem examination included toxicology and DNA tests, all of which supported the conclusion that she drowned.

Their investigations also confirmed no evidence of restraint or struggle, and toxicology results showed ethanol levels consistent with postmortem decomposition.

The findings support an earlier report by retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigator Leonard McCoshan, who concluded that there was “no evidence of foul play by persons named or unnamed.”

The police are preparing the full investigative file for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review.

The Guyana Police Force extended condolences to the Younge family and reaffirmed their commitment to a transparent and just process.
